Sony is the unofficial ‘Premium’ brand for embedded Google TV, especially in Australia. While there are other options on the local market Sony is the major player, especially in the higher end. To that end, we always look forward to CES to see just what TVs Sony has been cooking up.
While that cadence for TVs has fallen into a predictable pattern we also wouldn’t want to see things sit still. The 2022 Sony lineup has TVs ranging from Quantum Dot OLED to 8K models, all the way down to a 43″ 4K 60Hz TV.

While Australian availability and pricing have not been confirmed yet it does appear like the Australian market will be missing out on the new 8K Mini LED Z9K series, as well as the two base LED series the X85K and X80K. We’re not surprised to see the top of the line model skipping our shores, but the lack of the basic models suggest that SONY isn’t competitive well at the lower end against the cheaper Chinese brands.
The story doesn’t stop at TVs however, Sony has announced a couple of companion accessories for their TVs. a new Premium Remote and the all-new BRAVIA CAM. The remote is an aluminium “pro” remote featuring backlighting and an inbuilt finding system letting you ask your TV to find the remote (it’s under a cushion). At present only the A95 and A80 models come with the premium remote included.
The BRAVIA CAM is similar to what you would expect, it’s a camera that can be integrated on top of any of the new TVs, it enables videos chat and gesture control of your TV, it also incorporated a system to detect where users are sitting and ‘optimise’ the sounds experience for those locations. We’re not 100% sure on this one, but we’re glad Sony is trying something new. The BRAVIA CAM comes standard with the A95.
Unfortunately, Australian pricing and availability often takes a few weeks to months to start coming out, so the question is are you going to wait for the new hotness?
