When I was younger I travelled to many remote places in Australia such as Chambers Pillar and Wolfe Creek Crater so I know that while Telstra mobile coverage is much larger than Optus or Vodafone, there are many places where there’s no mobile reception at all.

According to GME, while Aussies love exploring the great outdoors, many don’t realise less than 14% of the Australian landmass is covered by mobile phone service.

That’s why a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) designed to alert rescue services in an emergency situation when you can’t call 000 is a must-have for anyone venturing beyond Australia’s cities eg: bushwalkers, recreational fisherman, anyone flying their own light plane, grey nomad caravaners, dirt bikers etc.

Obviously it’s not possible to test an emergency beacon like we do for other gadgets so here’s the press release from GME, the only Australian manufacturer of emergency beacons, with over 30 years experience of their PLB’s saving lives.

Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast who loves camping, bushwalking or 4WD adventures or someone in your family is – keep them safe with a new Australian-made Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) from GME.

The new GME MT610G PLB is the most compact and lightweight PLB design ever. It includes a ‘Non-Hazmat’ battery pack for ease of transport, is waterproof and offers an impressive 7 year battery life and 6 year warranty.

Featuring an integrated 72 channel GPS receiver, zero warm-up time, high intensity LEDs, IP68 water and dust ingress Protection and an inherently buoyant design, the compact size of the MT610G has not compromised the safety features included.

The MT610G is designed to meet and exceed the latest international standards and is Cospas-Sarsat Class 2 certified.

The new MT610G Personal Locator Beacon from GME is currently on sale at Anaconda for $319, the RRP is $379 and it can be purchased from GME Dealers.

I love how the second and third points in the specs are about ‘self-test’ i.e. how you can be sure before you leave that it’s really going to save you! Neerav – is there a subscription or just purchase cost?
