Sydney’s iconic Ferries launching on Google Street View thanks to a partnership between Google and the operator of Sydney Ferries, Transdev, and Transport for NSW, will be launching via a partnership which was announced back in May 2022, the iconic Sydney Ferries on Google Street View for the first time.

The new experience offers a virtual tour of Sydney Ferries docked at Circular Quay and allows them to take a trip across Sydney Harbour on the Manly (F1) and Taronga Zoo (F2) services.

Transport for NSW, Transdev and Google combined nautical and engineering expertise to produce this unique collection, navigating tumultuous weather conditions and sea motion.

Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins has stated that:

“Virtual visitors can look inside and outside the ferry, docked at Circular Quay – and also take a trip on two of Sydney’s most celebrated ferry routes, Circular Quay to Manly and Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo. These experiences are available on Google Street View from today,” and that “These famous routes give viewers the full experience of travelling on an iconic Sydney ferry on the glistening Sydney Harbour on a sunny afternoon.”

“I hope the magnificent footage we’ve captured and the virtual reality experience of Google Street View, encourages both locals and visitors to Sydney to take a trip on a Sydney ferry and enjoy this one-of-a-kind public transport experience.”

Daniel Nadasi, Engineering Site Lead, Google Australia has stated:

“We are thrilled to build on our decade-long partnership with Transport for NSW and Transdev to celebrate and preserve this unique Australian experience on Street View.“ and that “This imagery will allow people in Australia and all around the world to take a virtual tour of the iconic Sydney ferries, to help them plan their trip and get a glimpse of the journey on Sydney’s stunning harbour.”

Transdev Sydney Ferries General Manager Customer Experience and Communications Joana Feiteira has stated:

“These two routes will allow people in Australia and around the world to take a virtual tour of our iconic Sydney ferries, rewarding them with spectacular harbour views, as well as showing them the acclaimed “best office in the world” with exclusive access to the wheelhouse.”

This partnership adds to Google’s list of experiences created within Streetview, where since 2007 Street View has offered a virtual window to the world. In Australia, this has included a glimpse into the whale sharks on Ningaloo Reef, a migration of the crabs on Christmas Island, the marvels of Kakadu National Park, a tour of Sydney Opera House and more.
