Market Share Statistics company NetMarketShare has only recently begun monitoring the worldwide usage of ChromeOS and after one week have released their first report which does not include ChromeOS. ZDNets Ed Bott queried the lack of ChromeOS figures from the NetMarketShare report and was advised that they found that ChromeOS only accounts for 0.02% of web traffic, a figure they described as too small to earn a place on its reports.

Google, so far seems happy with the sales figures on Chromebooks having previously advised that the Samsung Chromebook has been #1 on Amazon’s bestseller list for laptops every day since it launched 125 days ago in the U.S and in the UK. In the UK, Dixons advise that Chromebooks now account to 10% of notebook sales at Currys PC World, the UKs largest electronics retailer.

ChromeOS Hardware has only been available in the US and UK until recently when Google expanded availability of the Acer, Samsung and HP Chromebooks to include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands. Although Chromeboxes are still in limited availability, currently only available to corporate customers.

With Google expanding availability of ChromeOS devices to new markets, statistics such as this should climb, although hopes that the market share numbers will increase drastically are a bit much to hope for. The best that Google can do is stay the course and continue to add functionality to ChromeOS that will entice new users to try it. Although at $299, the Acer Chromebook is certainly an attractive offer to those looking for a cheap internet machine.
