Bauhn Tablet Catalogue
Aldi are set to introduce yet another Android tablet next Saturday, with a new Bauhn 9.7″ tablet going on-sale for $199. They’re also re-introducing the Bauhn 5″ Dual-SIM Smartphone they released back in September last year at a lower price point.

The 9.7″ Bauhn tablet is this time running a 1.4GHz Quad-Core CPU with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with a microSD Card for expansion. It comes with a 5MP camera on the rear as well as a Front-facing webcam and microphone for video conferencing. The tablet has a microUSB port, Mini-HDMI and 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in all for under $200.

Aldi is also selling a Keyboard case which uses Bluetooth for connection that is aimed at both Android tablets as well as iPads. The case will set you back $19.99 and is a decent buy if you happen to be picking up the tablet above.

The Bauhn AT-HK97 is a competent enough tablet, fast, but with a “standard” resolution of 1024 x 768 similar to the original iPad. It is well built and light, with a metal back. There are no volume keys which are replaced by the addition of soft keys on the permanent icon line on onscreen. Unusually a hardware “back” button is provided, duplicating the function of the standard software back arrow which is always on the bottom of the display. It’s a pity that charging is via a micro barrel plug rather than by the included micro USB port which is… Read more »

The $19.99 keyboard/cover shown in the photo of the Aldi catalogue with the AT-HK97?

Use eyes. LOOK at the pic of the keyboard/cover. It’s an iObject, slotted into an iObject compatible keyboard/cover. It was never an Android device compatible keyboard/cover.

We bought the AT-HK97 tablet from Aldi as well as a 32Gb micro SD card so we could download photos from our DSLR camera when we go on holidays. I have imported 145 photos on to the tablet to test how it is, the tablet manages to download 145 but gives me a message that my memory is almost full. The tablet is saving on the system memory and not the internal storage or the SD card. I have tried to do everything possible to move the photos to my 32Gb micro SD Card but you have no option in… Read more »

I bought the tablet from 12 months ago… and yeah it has it’s idiosyncrasy’s but it’s been an absolute boon over having to squint at a small phone screen. I didn’t want something that was uber expensive, just something that worked…and if I dropped it, scratched it etc, I wouldn’t be to outta pocket.. To date it’s sailing along but I’m not real tech savy so haven’t tried to do more than surf, play a few games and read on it.. oh and bang out a few urgent emails.

    what’s the battery life like?

Moderate… I usually get a full day out of it, using it in the am between getting up and getting to work (about an hour of use), during breaks at work, including my lunch. Then about two hours at night before needing a charge… I play a few games (scrabble, solitaire, bingo – intensive) and surf for the most part. oh and messaging left right and centre on facebook.. hope that gives you an idea for battery use.. I think it’s good my phone goes flat quicker and I hardly touch that.

these kinds of devices give android a bad name imho. The good thing here is Aldi’s return policy

Do you know what the screen resolution of the tablet will be?
