It’s been some time since Sony announced a tablet, but it could be about to happen again with evidence pointing towards a release of two new Sony tablets based on the Xperia XZ2 line.

According to a teardown of the camera APK of the Xperia XZ2 two new tablets, in 8″ and 10″ form factors could be released. The APK contained both strings and images that show the possible tablet sizes.

The tablets could possibly arrive this ‘summer’ but availability could be severely limited, possibly even just to the Japanese market with NTT DoCoMo.

The info is sketchy at the moment, and with Chrome OS tablets running both Chrome apps, and with Google Play support now a reality it remains to be seen exactly how long Android tablets have left.

Too late Sony. My Z3 tab died and I needed a replacement, bought other brand. Too slow with release. The Z3 tab was great.

What did you get? I’ve been running the Z2 tablet for over 3 years and unsure what to get if this one carks it.

My Sony Z3 Compact Tablet is still going, however, the camera app is shot! Keeps giving me an error message every so often.
I’d be keen to see what Sony will offer here, though, as Microsoft, Apple, etc. are offering some really good and useful devices.
Come on Sony, you can do it.

I wanted to get a Samsung S3 tab, but the Australia tax was absolutely ridiculous. $699 for an imported wifi model, or $999 for local purchase? No way. I just ended up going for a budget model, picked up a 10″ Lenovo for $199 – you get what you pay for though, definitely inferior to the Z3 tablet.

I was using it religiously until i upgraded the Mobile.
It’s now a dedicated media player remote.

Optus Sport app, AFL App, DS Video, etc. + the occasional mobile game.

I’m a stickler for stuff that works well, the camera app, that’s playing up, is starting to get on my nerves.

I don’t want to install a new rom, however, that may have to suffice.

The tablet is running as good as it can be for being old tech/specs. If i’m gonna upgrade, it’ll have to be something really good!
