Fossil has announced two new Android Wear Smartwatches at the annual Baseworld jewellery and watch show in Switzerland. The Fossil Q Wander and Q Marshal join Fossil’s original Q Founder to round out their current Android Wear offerings. Both new models are coming in a 44mm and 46m variants – not a huge size difference – include wireless charging with the introduction of a ‘slim’ charging pad and feature interchangeable straps.
Q Wander
The Q Wander features a multi-finished metal case with ‘sculpted’ wire lugs and interchangeable leather or silicon bands, from the current press images we can confirm it comes in Gold and Black.
Q Marshal
The Q Marshal features a rugged case and Metal, leather or silicon interchangeable bands, so far the Q Marshal has been showed in Silver and a Blue painted finish.
From a tech spec perspective there is little to reveal at this stage, if they follow the same pattern as their original Wear device we can expect to see a flat tyre screen – all press images are using very black screens to likely hid this – an intel processor and the standard 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of onboard storage.
It would be nice to think that these devices would feature Snapdragons new custom made SOC for Android Wear the Snapdragon Wear 2100, however, Fossil and Intel made a big deal about their partnership for the original Q Founder so that seems unlikely.
As it’s running Android Wear you’ll get the same consistent experience as any contemporary Android Wear device, I wish I typed that sentence more often for Android Phones.
Unfortunately, the Q Founder never made it’s way to Australia so there is a real possibility that we won’t see retail availability for either of these devices. We found this strange considering the large retail presence of Fossil in Australia. Of course, if you want to source an international model of anything these days, it’s not that hard, as long as your happy with not having an Australian warranty and consumer protections.
