With the launch of new phones recently Qualcomm has updated their list of devices supporting Quick Charge 3.0

Since announcing the faster, more efficient Quick Charge 3.0 standard back in September last year, Qualcomm has been waiting for devices using the compatible SoC’s to enter the market. With the influx of new smartphones, Qualcomm has updated their list of devices compatible with the standard.

Quick Charge 3.0 requires the use of a compatible Qualcomm System on Chip, which they announced last year included the Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430. Devices using Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 are backwards compatible to Quick Charge 2.0, so it may be time to update your charger or power bank to a compatible one. Thankfully, Qualcomm has updated the list ofower banks and certified Quick Charge 3.0 chargers available on the Qualcomm website.

Also included in the list are the Quick Charge 3.0 compatible smartphones that are now on the market. This list now includes:

• HTC One A9
• General Mobile GM5+
• HP Elite x3
• LeTV Le MAX Pro
• LG G5
• NuAns NEO
• Xiaomi Mi 5
• HTC 10

Qualcomm has qualified the implementation of Quick Charge 3.0 on their list of devices saying that ‘It is at the device manufacturer’s discretion to fully enable this feature. This would also extend to the Snapdragon 820 being used in the Galaxy S7, which has its own fast charging solution but is listed only as having Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 support.

With the ability to charge a smartphone from 0 to 80% in just 35 minutes, QC 3.0 is a boon to many heavy smartphone users. While none of the phones listed as containing Quick Charge 3.0 support have been released in Australia, we certainly are about to see the HTC 10 and LG G5 released here in the coming weeks, but exactly when hasn’t been announced.
