LG’s Watch Sport and Watch Style may look pretty, but they’re not coming to Australia, and unfortunately neither is the other Android Wear 2.0 watch released today by US carrier Verizon.
The watch is made by Original Design Manufacturer Quanta computing who’ve manufactured devices for companies like Amazon with the original Kindle Fire tablet. The watch, called the Wear24, is an Android Wear 2.0 watch designed for the Verizon network with built-in LTE connectivity that will start selling in March for $349US outright, or slightly cheaper at $300US on a plan.
The LTE inclusion may be power hungry so the watch also has a big 450mAh battery as well to get you through the day, but that means the watch is quite thick at 13.5mm.
Other specs include a 1.4″ AMOLED display and also has IP67 water resistance allowing you to spend up to 30 minutes in 1 metre of water. The watch will include NFC support for Android Pay.
It’s not coming to Australia, but if even Verizon is making one it bodes well for more manufacturers releasing their own watches – perhaps the rumoured Huawei Watch followup or the ZTE watch may make their way here sooner rather than later.
You scared the companies off with your “is Android Wear dead ?” stories.
I think we just gave them a bit of a wake-up call …
