If Samsung, Apple, Google and a kickstarter called Pebble can do it, why not a large consumer electronics company like LG? According to a source speaking to the Korea Times, LG has been working on their own piece of wearable technology, getting a touch screen watch ready for release.
There is no indication of when the watch will be released however the source advised that
The company has spared no efforts to invest in products that it believes are must-haves to stay ahead technology wise in the market, whatever the situation maybe
The source also declined to comment on whether the watch would run on Android or if they would use the upcoming Firefox OS which they announced they would release a phone running later this year.
It’s not really a surprise that a major consumer electronics company is looking into creating a product that the public appears to want. LG is also very well positioned to create something like this given they have an end to end capability for manufacturing all the parts of a watch. Either way this year could be a big one for watch wearers.
I’d only consider getting one if the battery life on these things are really good. A watch isn’t a necessity for me, and I wouldn’t want to have to charge the watch every few days or even weekly.
I’ve got a smart watch. It’s an Eco Citizen and it runs off the power from the sun. Now that’s smart.
Yeah, I had a Citizen Eco-Drive – in fact i’ve had two of them, but I found I just couldn’t wear a watch, guess i’ll be trying again when all these watches appear.
I wonder… did you guys ever get the Pebble and/or review it?
I wanted to get one but missed out on the Kickstarter project. I would purchase one now but after buying the Chromebook Pixel I think my wife would shoot me.
Can’t wait for a review on the Pixel mate.
I can’t wait to get my hands on it 🙂
