It’s only been just over a month since the code was released, but Oreo is starting to appear on a number of devices, and according to Optus, there should be more next month.
Optus’ latest Software update blog lists the latest updates being tested by the carrier for phones on their network. The list of phones expected to receive their Android 8.0 update includes three phones with the HTC U11, Huawei P10 Plus and the Xperia XZ Premium all in testing now.
The status of the updates looks like this:
Manufacturer & Device | Version | Next version and Latest Information |
---|---|---|
HTC U11 | 8.0 | Update to 8.0 in testing expected mid to late December |
Huawei P10 Plus | 8.0 | Android update 8.0.0 in testing due mid to late November |
Sony Xperia XZ Premium | 8.0 | Android upgrade 8.0 + KRACK fixes in progress due late November mid December |
Sony began pushing their Oreo update last month with the XZ Premium their first phone to be updated. HTC’s U11 Oreo update began rolling out over the weekend in HTC’s home market of Taiwan, with the update including all the Oreo goodies including Auto-Fill passwords, Picture-in-Picture and more.

The Huawei P10 Plus is the surprise here, with Huawei not traditionally known for being quick on the draw with updates, but we’re welcoming this change in pace.
Telstra and Vodafone haven’t listed any updates to Android Oreo on their respective update pages, but we imagine that these updates will be along shortly on their carrier branded handsets as well soon. If you receive the update notification let us know.
