Now that Google’s finally unveiled Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) and the Nexus 5, the question many of us are asking is ‘when will my phone get the update?’ We already know that Kit Kat will hit Nexus devices fairly soon, but according to HTC America their flagship device will be updated sooner than we might have thought.
Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC America, has told Engadget that Kit Kat will be pushed out aggressively to the HTC One, with the Google Play Edition updated within the next 15 days. Unlocked and developer editions of the One will get Kit Kat within 30 days, and by 90 days or less, every One in America will have the Android 4.4 update available. This is nothing short of miraculous as US carriers are notoriously terrible at updating their devices.
If HTC can convince US carriers to get on board with updates so quickly, it’s likely that we’ll see the updates in the same time frame, if not sooner. It’s likely that HTC would have had early access to Kit Kat’s code so that they could prepare the GPE update so they’ve probably been working on this for a while. It also helps that HTC aren’t planning any substantial changes to the Sense 5.5 skin that sits atop Android.
We have contacted HTC Australia, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone for comment, and we’ll let you know once we hear anything.
Not holding my breath for Samsung and/or Optus to update any time soon
i’m sure our carriers will take a min of those 90 days just for testing ;p
It’s not “like” 3 months, it IS three months. That’s what 90 days is.
Nov 30 days + Dec 31 days + Jan 31days = 92 days
So 90 days is not 3months :p
