Before the Google Home Hub goes on-sale, the Google Assistant powered Lenovo Smart Displays are heading down under this month. Lenovo Australia has finally put the Smart Displays up on their Australian website.

The smart displays went on-sale in the US in August with the 8-inch USD$149.99, while the 10.1-inch display sells USD$229.99. That pricing hasn’t quite made it here Lenovo Australia pricing the 8-inch model at $299 while the 10-inch model will set you back $399.

The two models include either an 8-inch 1280×800 resolution display, or 10.1-inch 1920×1200 resolution display but are both powered by a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and come with 4GB of on-board storage. A front mounted 5MP camera (with a manual cover switch for privacy), dual microphones and a 10W speaker are included allowing for video playback or video conferencing with Google Duo.

The Smart Displays are only available in white with a rather nice bamboo back on the 10-inch model, while the 8-inch model has a grey plastic back.

According to the Lenovo Australia website, the Smart Displays will ship in 5 business days, with the addendum that you’ll receive your delivery approximately 5-7 business days after your order has shipped. Lenovo does note that shipping to regional areas, as well as to WA, NT and Tasmania may take longer.

Smart Displays are powered by the Android Things platform which was launched from Beta just prior to Google I/O this year. Google has been updating Google Assistant with more visual aspects including the ability to watch YouTube videos and Cooking demos, as well as checking the weather forecast, and checking your Google Photos feed and lots more.

If you’ve been waiting for these to appear then you can head over to the Lenovo website and pop either an 8-inch model or 10-inch model in your cart now.

Link provided to Lenovo website says, “WE’RE SORRY, BUT THERE ARE NO MODELS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME”. A representative from the website chat says it’s not here yet and will be launched in a couple of weeks.

Now showing as available to buy on the Lenovo website but could be a 4 week wait though… Says it, “Ships within 2-3 weeks”, and then goes on to say, “You’ll receive your delivery approximately 5-7 business days after your order has shipped. Deliveries to regional areas, as well as to WA, NT and Tasmania may take longer”

On current exchange rates, with GST added, that $229.99 USD for the 10in, is $349.77AUD.
The 8in at $149.99 USD is $228.17 AUD.
So a $50 AUD gouge on the 10in, and a $70 AUD gouge for the 8in.

Trying to secure some sales before Google Release theirs? I hope the “currency adjustment” isn’t so high on the Pixel 3.

    Really

That’s a bit rich on the pricing with the Australia Tax they have imposed.

Like the Motorola Phone pricing of a few days ago, Lenovo is looking to seriously stiff Australian consumers.
