Huawei Watch GT leak points to possible two week battery life

The Huawei Watch and Huawei Watch 2 have been popular smartwatches, and it looks like Huawei is forging ahead with the next generation with a planned launch of the Huawei Watch GT alongside the Mate 20 in London later this month.

According to Roland Quandt of Winfuture.de, the Huawei Watch GT will launch in two variants, a Classic/Fashion model and a Sports model with the former being launched with a Silver body, while the Sport will come in an all Black colourway. Both models will feature the same dual button configuration on the right hand side which we saw in the Huawei Watch 2.

The big news is the possible two week battery life that Huawei is apparently promising from the 420mAh battery included in the Huawei Watch GT. Earlier this month, after the launch of their Kirin 980 processor, Huawei CEO Richard Yu told reporters

We want to make the smartwatch more useful, more intimate, more functional, and with much longer battery life. Today we have two days battery life. I hope to have one running for a week. We want much better performance, and more usability.

To achieve the longer battery life, the Huawei Watch GT will include a new power-saving mode, similar to the low-power mode found in the TicWatch Pro giving access to only certain functions and likely to limited sensors on the watch. This low-power mode will offer up to 14 days of use, though Quandt also says that in normal mode with the Always-On display activated it’s possible to get seven days battery, or up to 20 hours with GPS activated.

Whether Huawei has gone for a dual-display setup like the TicWatch Pro to achieve these battery savings hasn’t been addressed, with Quandt only listing that the Huawei Watch GT will include a 1.39″ fully round AMOLED display. It’s also possible the watch may use the newly announced Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC which would allow for the extended battery life, however this can’t be confirmed either.

The watch will include GPS and NFC as well as a number of sensors including a compass, pressure sensor and an accelerometer and likely a heart-rate sensor, though this has yet to be confirmed – exactly which of these sensors will be accessible in low-power mode isn’t clear.

The watch will be waterproof allowing you to go swimming with the watch, and for fitness fanatics a ‘Multi-Sport’ and ‘Sport Coach’ function will be included for health tracking.

Pricing wise, Huawei is apparently looking to be aggressive in Europe with the Sports model apparently set to be priced at 199 euros, while the Classic/Fashion model will cost 229 euros.
