It looks as if official renders for Samsungs latest Wearable, the Galaxy Watch 4 may have broken cover overnight. With Samsung and Google jointly announcing that they will be joining forces to co-develop WearOS, merging the underlying WearOS framework with many of Tizen’s features we’re more than a little excited to see the resulting OS.
While we still don’t really know what WearOS will offer, or how skinned Samsungs implementation will be, we’re expecting it to be a fully customised skin, we do now have a fairly good idea of what to expect from the hardware. The Galaxy Watch 4 will be a simple round face design, apparently, without a physically rotating bezel, two elongated flab buttons, so no digital crown either.
The watch strap looks to be a standard removable lug design hopefully indicating that you will be able to use a wide range of non pripriotery aftermarket watch bands to truly customise your look. The casing will come in Silver, Black, Deep green and a Rose gold colour with various standard band colours as well.
Around the back is a sensor for Heart Rate and perhaps Blood oxygen saturations and no physical contacts hopefully signifying wireless charging. Two size options will be available with 40mm and 44 mm options both sporting 5o m water resistance and MIL-STD 810G durability with a curved glass display.
Overall we are very excited to see Samsung bolstering the WearOS hardware scene, but we do think that anyone hoping for a consistent look and feel across WearOS should abandon all hope now. Google has confirmed they are dropping the rules around the UI look and feel, and we all know how Samsung loves to skin its products.
Samsung will be unveiling their next wearable at an event on June 28 so expect all the details to emerge next week.
