Smart devices and wearables aren’t just a luxury now; for many, they’re a necessity. They help us stay connected, informed and active. Suunto is one of the lesser-known names in the market, but they’ve certainly got the goods regarding hardware delivery.
Their latest release is the Suunto 9 Peak Pro, a top of the line fitness device with a massive features list headlined by the theoretical 21 days between charges. This is, of course, dependent on a number of factors including which (Performance – 40 hours, Endurance – 70 hours or Tour – 300 hours) battery mode you’re using.
The watch comes in at just 10.8 mm thin. Certainly, one of the thinnest sports watches around, which continues a theme from our previous Suunto 5 Peak review in June. We also found that light and thin didn’t make it flimsy or fragile; that toughness too, is part of the Suunto 9 Peak Pro.
Damian Commane, Head of Suunto ANZ said:
While extending our deep heritage in sports watches and precision instruments, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro’s comprehensive tracking capabilities and sleek design has allowed us to deliver our most premium product yet.
Other features of the watch include:
- Titanium model weighing in at 55 grams and steel model 64 grams
- Tested to the military standard (*MIL-STD-810H) of toughness
- Daily activity tracking: steps, heart rate, sleep, calories and stress levels
- Complementing huge battery life is the fast charging: 100% battery in 1 hour
- Barometric sensor
- Waterproof down to -100 m
- Made with sapphire glass, stainless steel, and two models with grade 5 titanium
The device has 97 sport modes to choose from, even custom modes for your own personalised needs. As part of this — aligned with the waterproofing to -100 m — is the snorkelling mode which allows users to capture and follow essential data such as depth, dive time and water temperature under the surface down to 10 meters.
The hardware isn’t the full story though, as with other fitness tracking devices; the app plays a big part in the experience too. The Suunto App is now optimised for tablets allowing users to work on a larger screen to structure workouts and analyse data.
Perhaps the biggest downside to an investment like this is being able to directly compare data with friends on other platforms. But if you’re starting your fitness journey, or aren’t worried about those type of comparisons, then a Suunto watch could well be up your alley.
The Suunto 9 Peak Pro is available through Suunto Online store, Bing Lee and The Good Guys. The Stainless steel versions cost AU$759.00 and the titanium will set you back AU$959.00
