Shield Console
Update:
Looks like this was an error. According to Android Central, Nvidia has advised that this is a developer edition which was erroneously put up on the main site. According to Nvidia:

A SHIELD partner development kit was erroneously listed on our website today as a product. For clarification, NVIDIA has not launched a 500 GB SKU for SHIELD. The website has been updated with our announced SHIELD product, available soon at $199.99.

Back to normal folks.

Android TV is about to launch in Australia with the Nexus Player next week, but while the price is right for a number of people, it’s already being superceded in hardware by options like the Razer Forge or the Nvidia Shield Console. Nvidia’s Shield Console has gotten even more attractive with Nvidia updating the storage options to offer a 500GB storage option for $100 more.

The Shield Console was announced with 16GB of storage so for an update to 500GB to be released is a big upgrade. Android Police raise the very valid point of exactly how Nvidia will deliver the additional storage, be it through an interals SSD or will it simply be an external 500GB drive? We leave that up to Nvidia to announce at some future point.

The Nvidia Shield still hasn’t been announced for Australia – though Nvidia is still trying to bring their Shield range to our shores – but you can import it and at this stage it’s looking like a great option with that much storage. The console also features Nvidia’s Tegra X1 processor with 256-core Maxwell GPU and 3GB RAM. With an ethernet port as well as dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1, this is one monster console.

We anxiously await any developments from Nvidia on availability of the Shield Console and we’ll let you know as soon as Nvidia has something to announce for the Australian market.

Unless the nVidia Shield will definitely be launching in Australia and there is a hard date, that 500Gb for $100 (USD I am presuming) is vaporware for Australians.

I imported a Nvidia Shield pro 500gb console. I must say it is a great unit. A huge disadvantage it no real support in Australia, the Australian dollar, it cost me AU$457 with freight. I would love to see this console in shops.. Come on Nvidia
