Motorola’s first phone produced fully in co-operation with Google, the Moto X 2013, began receiving its Android 5.1 update last week in Canada, the US and Brazil. But today, Senior Director, SW Product Management, Motorola Mobility David Schuster has announced on Google Plus that fourteen more countries will be getting the update and Australia is one of them.

The update is headed for Australia, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands and Spain at this stage with handsets most likely seeing OTA prompts over the next week or two as they stagger the update.

The Android 5.1 update brings a few new features which integrate with updates in Lollipop such as the Ambient Display, which can now if you want replace the Moto Display. The full list of features in the Android 5.1 update includes:

5.1 update just arrived for my MotoX gen2 purchased in Australia. No problems installing it. Smooth as butter 🙂
