fde58b8a082df047746c96c8f4e046e1_originalThe Ubik Uno phone has arrived on Kickstarter and promises top of the line hardware for entry level cost. This is a market currently populated by Oneplus and their current flagship phone (Oneplus One). Currently the Kickstarter has rewards levels for US$280 (No longer available) for the Ubik Uno, US$299 (935 left) for the Ubik Uno, US$320 latecomer’s reward for the phone, US$890 for a 3 pack and US$2990 for 10 devices.

The Ubik Uno promises lightning fast processing and a light price tag. The low-cost market is ever expanding and a phone that is, at most, half the cost of comparable flagships should send some kind of shock through the current market. Oneplus’ #hype event is scheduled for Monday the 27th of July may just take the wind out of the Ubik Uno’s sails, so to speak. Have a look at Ubik’s Kickstarter video below.

The specifications include stock android, 64 bit processor, 3 GB or RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 3100 mAh battery and a 20 MP camera. All of this fits in a 5.5″ bezel-less screen and metal chassis. Have a look at the comparison with the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4 below.

Do you think the Ubik Uno is a real competitor in the Android ecosystem? The phone is fighting a battle here with the Oneplus One, will Monday 27th Oneplus Two event hinder the adoption of the Ubik Uno?

Do you like minimal bezels? Could you sacrifice thickness for battery? We’d like to know your ideas on the ultimate smartphone.

As usual with all projects of this type, we are here to inform not advocate backing the project. All projects on Kickstarter (or IndieGoGo) have no guarantee that they’ll end up being produced even if their goal is reached, so please ensure you are aware of all the terms and conditions before you back a project.

That’s a beautiful phone with great specs at an awesome price. 5.5″ with no bezels is the perfect size. If they can do it, why can’t the other OEMs?

What is the U shaped symbol near the earpiece, and the circle at the bottom of the handset?

I’ve never heard of Ubik before. Are they new to manufacturing handsets?

I guess how quickly updates are released and whether or not custom ROMs become available will be a determining factor. Is the MediaTek CPU something that will restrict custom ROMs?

Pumpino

Arggg, It doesn’t even support any of the AU LTE bands! Not a single one! “Ubik UNO will support 2, 4, 7 & 17 LTE bands.”

Joybrata

I would be all over this if it supported all the LTE bands used in Australia

Markus

Hmmm, Mediatek isn’t getting much love in the ROM world so no, this one does not hold my fancy. Too many MTK phones have been orphaned with no Android upgrade options…

subnoize

Yeah, this is the biggest issue. Although if they’re running stock android I don’t imagine they’ll have to spend forever porting features.

vijay alapati

why there is android browser on the photo ;p
well i never used it…was always fan of dolphin until chrome stole its place

Level380

Its the AOSP browser……

Looks like Biggies like Samsung and LG are going to have tough time with these competitors….iPhone seems to be safe as they have their our slot of customer always

Level380

Kickstarter… NOPE.. I’m out. Been burnt before, never again! I’ll buy it at ‘retail’

Tony Soprano

Are you one of those people that has a bad experience ONCE and then says no to giving a particular brand a chance ever again? That’s a pretty closed minded attitude to take.

Level380

Closed minded to review the risk of the project failing or not? Hmmm no sounds pretty smart to me!

I’ve been burnt before and kickstarter has no protection to the backer. Its too bad so sad. So I now review each project.

This project has a HIGH risk of failure. A unknown company making a smart phone for the first time, on low profit margins. What could go wrong!?

Tony Soprano

That’s the whole point of a kick start project. You take a risk. Most of the work out fine. Your pessimistic attitude is terrible, and your sarcasm is even worse.

Level380

I’m pessimistic am I?… well you’re a fool and you know what they say about fools and their money….. I’m sure you enjoy parting with yours on dud projects!

Kickstarter is a platform for backing. As a backer you are meant to look at the risk and gauge if the project will be successful or not. Kickerstater isn’t a online store, that many people seem to think it it. So go ahead, you back one of these phones. We’ll come back and review how that worked out for you in 12 months time.

Tony Soprano

I never implied I was going to embark on the project did I? Therefore I can’t be a fool if I never contributed to it.

Level380

Why don’t you put your money where you mouth is then? You seem to want to piss all over my comment for not backing it, as it seems risky. So YOU back this project and we’ll see who is right. Me or you then!

Tony Soprano

I’m not “pissing all over your comment”. But if you want to get super salty over it then please, go right ahead. You sound like a whining little child anyway.

Level380

Umm I started the thread YOU’RE replying to, so yeah its pissing over my comment. I noticed you don’t want to part with your money….worried you might not see it again! haha.
