Galaxy S7 - Galaxy S7 Edge
As a first at the launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, the availability has been announced, with Australia set to get the phones on the 11th of March. Telstra is the first Australian carrier to announce they will carry the phones and they’ve announced a few details about the launch.

Telstra will be opening pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 on the 26th of February with the phones available on a range of Go Mobile and Go Business mobile plans in Black, Silver and Gold colour options.

Telstra is also following Samsung on their VR journey and will begin offering the Samsung Gear VR at participating Telstra stores, with Telstra offering their customers who pre-order one of the phones online a Gear VR headset.

Telstraโ€™s Director of Devices, Andrew Volard said the new smartphones were set to be a hit with Australians.

Luxurious design, standout processing power, high-speed web performance and the return of much-loved features like water and dust protection are set to make this the most popular Galaxy smartphone launch yet. Customers upgrading to the new smartphones can look forward to the fastest web speeds yet on Samsungโ€™s flagship phones with both the S7 and the S7 edge supporting category 9 LTE download speeds of up to 450Mbps on Telstraโ€™s 4GX network. That means faster streaming, sharing and surfing on the web when in 4GX areas.

Telstra has launched a signup page for those interested in learning when the phones are up for pre-order, pointing customers to telstra.com/galaxys7 to register their details. If the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge are your ‘next’ then head over and register your details.

Does anyone know whether Telstra will have demo phones instore tomorrow (Friday 26) to look at before pre-ordering? I spoke to my local Telstra store and they said they would be taking pre-orders instore too with the bonus VR as well.

JT...

I highly doubt it. Pre-orders are usually done because they don’t have stock yet. They ‘should’ have them from the 11th of March.

JT...

“offering” the Gear VR as an accessory? Does that mean they are giving it away or offering a discount on it? Be a bit odd to give $158.99 worth of kit away for nothing.

Oh man, I want that S7 Edge so bad. I’m just torn whether to wait for the Note 6. I’ve got a Note 4 at the moment and love it, but I really don’t use the S-Pen or features at all. And I’m not sure which is going to be better for software updates. And the edge panel looks so fragile but I want a big screen. First world problems.

I’ve been in contact with Samsung Aust today and they can’t tell me how much app storage is available on a 32GB! At this stage is appears that Telstra in Aust will only sell the 32GB version. I would have happily paid for a 64 or maybe a 128GB version to avoid the “insufficient memory” (app memory) messages I’ve had for the last 6 months on my current phone, forcing me to uninstall apps so updates could come through. My current HTC One XL phone has 32GB of storage, with only 7.5GB for apps, which has been very frustrating! I… Read more ยป

If you had read up on the latest Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) you would have seen that there is a new feature when inserting a microSD into the phone. You can initialise it as a “portable card” or as “internal Storage”. Unless you are regularly removing the card (no idea why you’d need to do so when you can just plug the phone in use NFC or WiFi) if you initialise as internal storage you can use it for apps, music, photos, whatever. It is no longer important to know how much ‘app storage’ a phone has when you can potentially… Read more ยป

Correction – Sorry the phone can have up to a 200GB card.

bam

unfortunately the samsung s7 will not be able to do this as they have prioritized being able to remove and and re insert the micros sd without having to restart the mobile.

From people who’ve received theres in the last few days, it appears that 8.5GB roughly is taken by the OS.

Phones available from 11th March and pre-orders open on 26th March? Doesn’t seem right

Cam

If you read the article it states pre-order is from 26th FEBRUARY with the phone itself actually available (from) 11th March.

Shane Wilson

Well if YOU had read the original article when it was first posted, you would have seen the mistake. Clearly Daniel has corrected the error.

Daniel Tyson

That’s on me Cam, Shane picked up an error I made. It’s been a hellish night and day in terms of work/rest. I fixed the mistake and usually add a comment but was trying to catch a few winks.
