Samsung-Galaxy-Note7-Press (1)

By now anyone who reads Ausdroid should know there has been an issue with the battery in the Galaxy Note 7 overheating and catching fire in a small subset of the line. As a result, Samsung Australia issued an official Australian recall almost two weeks ago. Following that, they advised us that their replacement program should begin this week.

With stock of the Samsung Note 7 beginning to become available to some owners this week we thought we’d ask those of you who have, or had, a Note 7 which of the replacement options Smashing has offered you’ll be using. Will you be getting a brand new, and safe, Note7? Will you get another Galaxy S device? Have you gotten a refund and bought something else? If you’ve got a Note 7 let us know.

Let us know in the comments what your replacement experience has been thus far? Or sound out with what you’ve chosen to do and why!

Thanks for the last option.

My Note7 was a preorder from the Samsung website.
Called Samsun & requested a replacement Note 7 and a loan phone.
They sent a Toll courier to pick up the Note 7 and he dropped off a new S7Edge was a loan phone (seriously, what the? Not a refurb, not a second, a new S7Edge.).
I just received an SMS yesterday stating new Note7 stock will arrive this week and they’ll contact me to arrange a courier to collect the loaner and drop off the new Note.
Given the circumstances I think Samsung has exceeded my expectations.

James Ryles

Complete opposite of my experience. Did they arrange the courier for you? I was initially told they would, then a week later I was on the phone to Toll (who were amazing) to arrange collection.

DeathByPizza

Yep. They arranged collection. Actually they JUST dropped the ball 30 minutes ago. My wife just called, Toll arrived with my Note 7 to swap with my loan phone but I’m currently at work. They didn’t contact me with a date or details of Toll for the drop off so I’ll have to re-book. Sucks that your experience was so lousy however. Probably just lucky I got someone who knew what was going on on my first call.

Nice work! Glad it’s kinda, sorta working out for folks – it’s such a nice phone.

I returned the Note 7 nearly 2 weeks ago to my re-seller of Telstra, all they had for a loan phone was a iPhone 5s, I politely declined, just stocked up on USB-C connectors, not getting lighting connectors for 2 weeks! Plus the hassle of Android to iOS and back again! Hopefully they call soon, my NASA $100 phone is wearing thin!

I would have loved a replacement, but I made the mistake of buying direct from Samsung and they have been utterly terrible to deal with – the worst customer experience of my life. After a dozen calls, tweets and foot stamping I ended up asking for a refund. Which then meant I had to personally deal with couriers to return the Note 7, and I am now waiting the mandated 5-10 business days for Samsung to put money back in my account. I loved the Note 7, but I won’t be buying another one. Pixel XL on the horizon for… Read more ยป

It’s a shame you had that experience, reach out to us if anything like this happens again, no guarantees, but we will try and smooth the waters for you

James Ryles

If there is a next time, it won’t be with Samsung. Thanks for the offer regardless.

I returned the Note 7 to Harvey Norman for a refund and am currently using a Nexus 5 (with terrible battery life) while I anxiously wait for the Pixel phones to be released.

You could always just get an iPhone 7/7 plus, same hardware, similar software and around the same price /S ?

Peter Hill

hah no thanks.

I know but if I didn’t say it someone else probably would have?
