lg-v20-unveiled-3

LG had minimal success with their flagship earlier in the year with the G5 not hitting sales targets as hoped. LG are looking to turn that around with the release of their new flagship, the V20, slated for release here on November 8 according to LG (although JB HiFi say November 3). The V20 just become even more attractive with root access obtained by Chainfire, hot on the heels of his success with the Google Pixel phones.

In recent times LG have been reluctant to embrace the developer/hacker community and thus support in the community for LG phones has thus been limited. With the V20 promising to be a successful phone developers are jumping on board with attempts to obtain root access so that users can do with their phone as they wish. Today notable hacker and developer Chainfire has tweeted about his success, based on work by Jc Adduono

These days many users feel that they do not require root access to use their devices as they want to but there are also many users, including myself, who love root access to be able to do things otherwise not possible. With the LG V20 getting root this opens up the phone to even more users. Not everyone needs nor wants root but this way everyone is happy.

***UPDATE*** Jcadduono has now released a TWRP alongside rooting process for the H918 variant of the V20. If you are going to try it please ensure that the process works on the Australian variant too. Let us know how you go.

Are you someone who wants/needs root access on their devices? Will this development make you think about purchasing an LG V20?
