If you’re the clumsy kind, a tradesperson, or someone who requires their phones to have a high level of protection, then you already know that OtterBox is one of the toughest cases you can get for a smartphone. While there are already a variety of cases available for Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL, I think it’s fairly safe to say that none offer OtterBox’s level of protection.

OtterBox has two cases available for the Pixel and Pixel XL, with pre-order available at otterbox.com from today, and in-store availability at Telstra and other retailers to follow thereafter.

The tougher of the two, the OtterBox Defender, will be available from $74.95 for the Pixel and $89.95 for the Pixel XL, and offers serious protection with three layers built in; a tough screen protector will keep sharps off your display, while the tough inner and outer shells are designed to absorb shock and keep dirt and grime out of your phone. It’s important to remember, though, that they are not waterproof, so don’t go throwing your Pixel in the water.

For those requiring a bit less protection, with a slimmer case profile, the OtterBox Commuter might be more your speed. Shown below, the Commuter is designed to slip easily into and out of pockets, and guards against drops and knocks.

We’ve asked OtterBox to send us a couple so we can try them out, and we’ll let you know what we think. While OtterBox has only listed its online store and Telstra stores, chances are you’ll find these in a good number of outlets, as OtterBox cases do tend to be quite popular. We sell them in the Ausdroid Shop, for example!

remember 10 years ago when we used to joke and laugh about the original phones and how big they were…

If only they were otter proof…
