Evan Blass got us excited for the Galaxy S8 yesterday and overnight the guys at BGR have gotten their hands on pictures of a Galaxy S8 in the wild.

The phone doesn’t show a huge amount that we haven’t seen already with the phone having a curved display and lacking any branding on the front of the phone. The Galaxy S8 will have the volume rocker and power button on the left side, with another button mounted on the right presumably for Bixby – Samsung’s virtual assistant.

The top of the phone is unexciting with a card slot presumably for SIM only, though a microSD card would be nice, but this isn’t confirmed. The bottom of the phone is slightly more interesting with a 3.5mm headphone jack present – guess they weren’t courageous enough to remove it.

Spec wise, the Galaxy S8 should arrive with a QHD+ resolution 5.7″ display, while the S8 Plus will come with a 6.2″ display. Under the hood we’ll see the first use of the powerful new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and 4GB of RAM, storage is expected to start at 64GB and if that microSD card is included we could see anything up to 2TB of storage able to be added.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be announced at an event on March 29th in New York, but the way things are going there’s not going to be much left to announce.

I’m probably going against the grain , but i wish they’d not make the devices too thin , my old galaxy note width is about as thin i like them to get .
While thin is good for using with one hand , typing is not a lot fun, even viewing content is pretty average unless you have xray vision with the print condensed .

I think most people these days are willing to sacrifice a few mm in order to get a better battery life. I’d carry around a double thickness Pixel to get 2 day battery life.

Major Sceptic

Nail hit on head Daniel !

Major Sceptic

Corageous enough to remove the headphone jack ? ?

Daniel Tyson

There’s no obvious sarcasm font, but I thought that one was obvious

Major Sceptic

I was being a bit sarcastic wasnt i ? , no offense was meant by it .
i guess you can take the courageous thing in different ways , i just don’t see it as courageous to take a convenient feature away and replace it with something new that’s arguably not better. .

Daniel Tyson

Lol, wasn’t offended mate. Just lamenting a lack of a sarcasm font. Agree completely that the removal of a convenient feature without something equally convenient is just stupid.

Still not a big fan of the Samsung UI. Also unsure about the location of finger sensor. To been seen if people can stretch enough and not also not keep pressing the camera lens instead

whitelunchbag

I know there are many engineering based decisions for smartphone design, but that fingerprint sensor location is pretty average in an otherwise very promising package

Major Sceptic

I was thinking the same , but given how slim some of these devices are getting with their thin bezels , it might not be as bad as looks ….. Hopefully .

Anthonaut

Is that a USB-C port?

Daniel Tyson

Sure is, but given the Note 7 went USB-C it’s not hugely surprising.

AF

Nice.
Love the new look of buttons at the bottom. Just not sure about the location of fingerprint reader at the back. Need to try to see if it makes sense.

Daniel Tyson

Just remember to wipe your lens before you take a photo 😉

tomascooper

I doubt i will be even using the fingerprint scanner lol. Id use the iris scanner anyday over fps

Major Sceptic

I probably would to mate , although i don’t know how well it will go with my four eyes .

AF

Haha so true
