As previously leaked Moto will be releasing a new Moto C line focused at the budget/entry-level smartphone buyer. These are not Flagships, nor are they extremely capable midrange devices, they are affordable, suitable for those needing a phone but not wanting or needing the bells and whistles.
Moto C
The Moto C is their ultra entry level device with both 3G and 4G variants, the 5-inch 854 x 480 display device packs a 1.1GHz 64-bit processor in the 4G variant and a 1.1 GHZ 32-bit processor in the 4G variant both from MediaTek, 1GB RAM 8 or 16GB of storage, Micro SD card, a 2,350 Mah battery with a 5MP rear facing and a 2MP front facing cameras.
The Moto C is expected to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and comes in Metallic Cherry, Pearl White, Fine Gold, and Starry Black, with different markets getting different colours. The Moto C is expected to sell for less than €99 or around $150 AUD (before local taxes).
Moto C Plus
The Moto C Plus is slightly higher specced as you would expect, the Moto C Plus keeps the 5-inch display at 1280 x 720 with an unknown 64-bit MediaTek processor, 1 or 2GB of RAM (region dependent), 16 GB storage with MicroSD card, a massive 4,000 mAh battery (seriously in this phone this could last for days), 8MP rear facing and 2MP front facing cameras.
The Moto C Plus will also ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and comes in the same range of colours. With an expected retail of around €119 or $180 AUD before local taxes, the Moto C Plus seems to offer much better overall value, assuming you can cover the additional cost.
With the Moto G5 Plus providing a truly excellent experience at a very reasonable price Moto may just deliver a very competent pair of affordable phones despite what on paper may look a little lack lustre.
Asia-Pacific has been called out as a launch market, but no specific of which countries specifically. We’ve contacted Moto Australia and will let you know if the devices are definitely heading to Australia.
It’s kind of obvious that the C+ is the real phone, but the price of $180+GST is far too high. Would need to be sub $99 to make an impact on the Coles grannyphone market (eg ZTE Blitz).
