After kicking off their Q series last week with the LG Q6, a mini version of the G6, LG has quietly released the Q8, which appears to be a mini version of the LG V20.
The phone has the same style of secondary display as the V20, sitting above the 5.2” IPS LCD QHD resolution display that’s covered in Gorilla Glass 4 and the phone also sports the familiar rear design with dual camera setup of the LG V20.
The Q8 is quite the high-end device, with an aluminium body that’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot supporting up to 2TB cards included. It’s powered by a 3,000mAh battery, the same size as the LG G6, and includes IP67 (it actually says IP68 in the spec list) water/dustproofing. A Quad DAC should make the audiophiles out there happy as well.
The rear dual-camera setup includes a 13MP 1/2.6” sensor that includes a 1.12µm pixel size that should help with low-light images, as should the f/1.8 aperture. The primary lens offers 78° field of vision, while the secondary wide-angle lens offers 135° field of view, with an 8MP 1/4” sensor behind an f/2.4 aperture. A 5MP 1/5″ sensor also with a 1.12μm pixel size behind a 120° wide-angle f/1.9 aperture lens is in place for the front-facing camera.
The phone will ship with Android 7.0 (Nougat), with LG UX installed over the top.
So far the phone has only been listed on the Italian LG website, so we’re yet to hear any details o global availability, or pricing. We’ll be seeing the LG Q6 here in Australia later this year according to LG Australia, so we may be in line to see the Q8 as well.
Looks like a good phone, but seriously LG can’t you come up with a naming convention that makes sense.
