Want a truckload of data for not a lot of money? Optus has cut 20% off its $50 SIM-only plan, bringing it down to $40 per month.

This plan includes 80GB of data, unlimited talk and text, and unlimited standard international talk and text to 35 selected countries. You also get the standard inclusions of an Optus Sport subscription, and data-free streaming through Spotify and Google Play Music (not that you need it when you have 80GB each month).

Notably, this plan comes with 4GB of monthly roaming data, which can be used when travelling in Zone 1 countries. These tend to include most of Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America. Optus typically bills $10 per 100MB when roaming in Zone 1, so this plan could be a great option for regular travellers who want to avoid picking up a local SIM. Here are the full details:

You’ll need to commit to a 12-month contract to get this plan.

Optus is running this deal until June 6.

Optus are the best value provider of the big 3 right now. But, while you get good bang for buck, they are seriously over-subscribed in a number of metro suburbs. So be ready for ADSL peak speeds.

Very good deal! Thanks for highlighting.

This is starting to make Vodafone’s $5/day roaming look expensive now….

I re-signed up with Optus for 12 months on this plan seeing it was due to expire in June, and Telstra prices are just ridiculous for what you get. That 4gb roaming data really sold me, as until now Optus’s roaming costs/plans/add-ons have been way behind the competition.
