There are significant differences in the Android mobile space around what updates are available. It differs betwen manufacturers and device ranges greatly. A short time ago, OnePlus has taken a leap forward in the pack with regards to updates.

OnePlus will offer four generations of OxygenOS and five years of security updates on selected devices launched in 2023 and beyond.

Gary Chen, Head of Software Products at OnePlus said:

OxygenOS is an integral part of OnePlus, co-created by our community members. This new update policy will give users access to the latest security and functional features required to power OnePlus’ signature fast-and-smooth experience throughout the lifetime of the phone.

At this time, there are no further details on exactly what devices will be covered. It is, however, reasonable to assume this will be for the higher cost flagship devices and others such as the Nord range will be assessed based on the sales of the device. Once confirmation of the covered devices is received, we’ll provide an update.

This announcement brings OnePlus to the front of the pack with regards to software updates.

Considering that they refuse to actually sell their devices in Australia, I wonder if they will honour that policy for the grey market unofficial devices we have to import?
