Google added fun illustrations to calendar events, when they brought back the month view in November last year. The newest update to Google Calendar will include a few more of the event illustrations, as well as support for the illustrations in new languages.

In total 30 languages — ‘from Dutch and Finnish to Catalan and Korean’ have been added with support for both existing events like dinner, drinks, yoga to more than a dozen new illustrations, for events such as weddings and Halloween parties. They’re a bit of whimsical fun added to checking your calendar, a task that’s normally a fairly bland part of your day.

The dozen new illustrations are nice, but Google obviously has plans to integrate more and is welcoming suggestions. Google recently entered back into a partnership with Twitter and they’re going to use that to their advantage. They’ve asked people to ‘tweet a photo of an event you love with the hashtag #makethemost’ – their favourite entries will get made into the next set of illustrations.

The update should be rolling out now so you should get a prompt to update through Google Play shortly.

Can we please have the correct seasons for those in the Southern Hemisphere??

I’d just like to be able to create a new event by duplicating an existing one on the phone, like you can do on the web site… who cares about the pretty pictures?!

Have they added a month calendar grid view yet? Pretty much my only request.
