Google Play Books
Google has announced a new update rolling out to Google Play Books Android app which brings a focus to Comic books, making them easier to read in landscape, as well as making discovery of new comics easier on the Google Play Store.

The update addresses the experience of viewing comics, which are usually in a wider format, allowing you to flip your phone or tablet on its side and scroll vertically, allowing you to more easily enjoy the art and follow the story.

The update to Google Play allows discovery of comics, from publishers such as DC Comics, Marvel, Image, IDW and Dark Horse, with a series of ‘beautifully curated series pages on the Google Play Store’.

The updates will go along way to boosting Google’s profile as a provider of digital Comics but the incumbent, Comixology, is still the giant in viewing comics on mobile devices. These updates will however address some of the issues users have had while reading comics on Google Play Books. The update is rolling out in the Play Store over the next few days to users in selected countries – including Australia – so keep your eye out for the update notification when it arrives.

I’ve gotten two graphic novels and they have worked really well on the N9.
