Google Maps recently switched on Google navigation in Rio ahead of the 2016 Summer Olympics which are about to begin, in anticipation of thousands of tourists descending on the Brazilian capital. Now they’ve announced an additional feature, maps of all the Olympic venues.
The summer Olympics will begin on the 5th of August, and by the time the Olympics run their course on August 21st, over 10,000 athletes will have taken part in 306 events across 28 sports. While Brazilians will be attending the events, a large portion of attendees will be tourists and having indoor maps at those events will make for a much more convenient event.
All in all, Google has mapped 25 official indoor venues and added enhanced outdoor maps of 12 official outdoor venues. The maps are available on desktop, but more conveniently for attendess, they’ll also be available on Android and iOS.
We’re 3-months out from the Rio Olympics, and we’re hoping Australia will make a good showing. The event is of course when everyone becomes an expert at the more esoteric sports such as fencing and archery, but heck, we don’t see them very often, so enjoy them while they’re on.
The capital of Brazil is not Rio. It’s Brasilia. Just FYI
