Amazon owned, digital comics supplier Comixology has begun offering customers in the US an all you can eat comic service for a low $5.99USD per month.

The service offers customers the option to download and read titles from a range of publishers for the one-off monthly fee. Comixology users who take up the offer will be able to enjoy their comics, graphic novels & manga offline, making for a great resource for travel or areas with low connectivity.

The list of publishers is fairly extensive, including both Image, Dark Horse and Archie Comics but notably leaves out the ‘big two’ of Marvel and DC comics. Marvel comics already runs Marvel Unlimited, which offers access to 17,000 digtial Marvel titles for a $9.99 per month fee, while DC has no such offering. Other publishers on board with the Comixology deal include:

  • IDW Publishing
  • BOOM! Studios
  • Dynamite Entertainment
  • Kodansha Comics
  • Oni Press
  • Valiant Entertainment
  • Fantagraphics Books
  • Humanoids
  • Action Lab Entertainment
  • Aspen Comics
  • Zenescope Entertainment
  • …and more

Comixology has also advised they will be revising which publishers are included in the Comixology Unlimited service, though it’s unlikely we’ll see Marvel drop their service.

The service runs month-to-month, with no contract so you can drop in and out of the service as required.

ComiXology Unlimited is US-only at launch, but the company expects this to change, saying ‘We expect to expand it to other regions in the future, because we love them, too’. The price would likely go up per month, and it could take a fair while for them to sort our rights, but their parent company Amazon has some sway in these things, so perhaps it could be a smaller wait – then again, we’re not holding our breath.

Oh, wow, I didn’t see this, thanks for the heads up!

Already have Marvel Unlimited, but BOOM! Studios and Image Comics (not mentioned here, but checked elsewhere) will be really nice to have.
