Google Play Music

Some days we get major updates, other days we get minor updates, depending on what you want out of your music player today’s update could be either of those, a sleep timer for Google Play Music. That’s right the real surprise here is that it didn’t already have one.

All that’s in the past now, to activate the sleep timer all you have to do is leave your playing music screen, go to the Play Music overflow menu, via the Hamburger button or a swipe to the right, find the setting and then activate the timer. If that description didn’t give it away, we don’t think this feature is well placed and certainly not user-friendly to use.

Setting a timer is easy enough, but takes a little getting used to how to set the countdown. It surfaces a familiar looking interface for selecting time but remembers you selecting countdown time not a finish time. I have a feeling that we may see some iterations on this feature. That said for those who want a sleep timer and use Google’s awesome uploaded or streaming music services this is a great addition, even if it is a little wonky.

If you want to give it a go, then grab the latest update from Google Play now.

  1. Hopefully, the next update tries to do the opposite and allows us to set a playlist to wake up to at the specified time.

  2. I’m quite pleased with this update. Now I don’t have to use a separate app as a sleep timer when I listen to mood music at night
