Google has today announced substantive improvements to their messaging and video calling apps, Allo and Duo. No more sticker updates for Allo today, this time it’s document sharing, while Duo gets voice calls.
At an event in Brazil, Google has made the announcement for the apps, which will see Allo users now able to share .pdf, .docs, .apk, .zip, and mp3 files between users. Once Allo is updated, sharing a document will be simple, just tap the ‘+’ button and then the paperclip icon to choose from a file picker.
Duo meanwhile gets a big update with audio only calls now available in the video chat app. The feature update was apparently a hugely requested feature by Brazilians, where bandwidth caps are a huge factor – as it is in other emerging markets – and it will be a Brazilian exclusive for an limited period, though Google announced that it will roll out to the rest of the world in the ‘coming days’.
The app updates show a positive direction for Allo and Duo, though probably not the app updates we really want to see. Allo and Duo product head Amit Fulay has previously said on Twitter that they roll out updates to the apps every 3 weeks, so stay tuned for more updates.
All well and good but where is the desktop client? Why cannot we have the same account on phone, tablet and computer?
