That flash of bright, white screen as you open up Google News to see what’s happening in the world is no more with a dark mode now rolling out in the latest version of the app.

The dark mode trend for Google apps has been a welcome change across a number of Google apps including Messages, YouTube and soon in the phone app. It’s one of Google’s more recent apps, Google News, that’s now on the receiving end of the update with the toggle for Dark Mode available in v5.5 of the app.

First noted by reddit user u/SlideReadIt, the update doesn’t appear to be rolling out broadly, but is available over on APKMirror.

The toggle is in Settings (tap your profile pic) and offers you four options: Always, Automatically (at night and battery saver), Battery saver only and Never. Choose your preferred option and you’re away.

It’s a welcome change for anyone who’s been blinded by the stark whiteness of Google’s design. If you’re wanting it early grab the APK from APKMirror or just hold tight and it should be rolled out through Google Play shortly.
