As you can see above, the Telstra version of the HTC Desire can install and run both Google Earth and Google Navigation (Turn by turn GPS), something all other Aussie Android Devices are unable to do. But why??

The reason being it seems to be the same version that will be released in the USA (to T-Mobile), and the USA version is able to install Google Navigation & Google Earth as well as a few other cool things such as Voice Dictation.

Info on where Telstra HTC Desire owners can download the above apps are after the break (Click “Read more” in the bottom right 😉 )

Installed in my X10, works well but somehow still need to find a better text to voice software…I couldn’t understand what it says @.@

The Google Navigation is just the brut hacked version from XDA-developers. The Google Earth app is just the apk from the market (google earth is pointless on android anyway because Google maps does the same thing). The voice dictation thing is the modded HTC_IME keyboard from xda-developers.

All of these^ were available a while ago and can be installed on any android device…
Not sure why there was a need for this? AFAIK all of these could have been installed on the Telstra Desire before.

Lol i did not know my android could not do it. Now i do i wish it could, one more thing the magic with google falls short on.

This is the same type of hacked Google Nav that works on all android devices. I was running the earlier versions on my G1 before I upgraded to the nexus one. It is a hacked version, but works pretty darn well and on all android devices, not just the desire.

I hardly ever launch co-pilot anymore.
