Optus have taken an aggressive approach to the Android market in Australia, pretty much from day one. Today, I received a little bit of news about a Galaxy S and Tab being sold (together) for $79 a month. Now that’s not really anything massive, however, what you get with the deal is.

This deal is basically Optus’ standard $79 Cap, which comes with $900 of credit, 3GB of data and all your favourite social sites like Facebook and Twitter are free, a missing component is the unlimited TXT, however you just use the included $900 for your text. The real steal is that you get the Galaxy Tab with another 3GB of data as well. So all in all, you get a Galaxy S with $900 of credit and 3GB of data AND a Galaxy Tab with it’s own 3GB of data, all for $79 bucks a month.

This isn’t showing up on Optus’ site yet; however, we have confirmed this with stores. This deal is live and runs till the 31st of March.

This is a run out deal as the new tab and phone are here but it is still an awesome deal and seriously if you keep waiting for the next models you’ll always wait

I just got this deal (typing this via the tab now). One thing I have noticed, is that while I can send and reseive sms from the tab, I can’t make calls. It has a dialer but i cant make and incomming or out going calls.

Just got this today. The deal is pretty sweet, I think, seeing as I wasn’t likely to be shelling out for the newer phones/tablets anytime soon. Even the Galaxy S is a nice upgrade from my early-adopter HTC Dream, haha!
Bloody Optus store forgot to give me the SIM for the Tab though, so I’ll be heading back on Monday!

Two months later and I missed out on Net access via the Tab for over a week from purchase. Optus set up the account wrong and double charged me, which I’ve just now unravelled.
Awesome deal; terrible implementation.

This includes unlimited text, just got confirmation from optus.

Run out deal for old models. If Optus brings a deal like this in for the new dual core galaxy and the galaxy tab 10.1, then I’m buying!!

I think we have reached the void where if you have waited this long for a Galaxy tab, you can wait for the next one to come out…

As Nathan says… this might be a good deal IF you would use both these devices, and IF there is enough quota, and IF nothing better comes along within two years 🙂

Nathan Elcoate

Well you can get a 12 month old laggy Galaxy S and it’s ugly tab cousin now on run out as the new stuff’s about to hit. You’d be mad to sign up to this for 2 years now!!

Scott

Laggy? Not on 2.2.1.

Daniel

Does this deal also require swapping 1 SIM card between the two devices like their previous $89 combo deal?

Lucas Burnett

no, from what i have been told it’s 2 services and 2 sims

Flame

Impressive deal. Feels like clearing out these older models though, considering SGS2 and new Tabs are just around the corner.

Lucas Burnett

it certainly does, however Optus wont get the new Tab 10.1 as it’s a Vodafone exclusive, but maybe the Optimus Pad is coming down under and as such Optus will grab that.

sigh… if they had this when i bought my galaxy s. Then i’d also have a Galaxy Tab.
I wonder if they’ll have an upgraded plan when the galaxy tab 10.1 hits.
