Are you psyched for the release of the Samsung Galaxy S II? I sure know I am, I mean, this is going to be my next phone. Well this bad boy just became available through MobiCity for the somewhat reasonable price of $899 for the 16GB variant, which is around about the same price as importing from the UK, but you also get local warranty. Though we understand this is a metric sh*t-tonne of money to be handing out for a device that isn’t yet available, so we’ll be reviewing it as soon as possible so you guys know whether to jump on board or not. Preliminary signs are looking good for the Galaxy S II, but we’ll never truly know until we try it for ourselves. Hold tight 🙂

We’re just wondering.. What phones are you most looking forward to us reviewing? We’ve got a fair few lined up.

The SGS II will be the phone to have in the way of form and function. However to many people will look at the price and skip it in favour of a simpler device (iphone) as they are cheaper. SGS II will definitely be my next phone as I will take advantage of most features it has to offer. If Samsung is aiming to be the next big phone manufacturer and knock Nokia out of pole position then it will need to become more competitive on price.

My two cents

I think it’s fairly well competitively priced SGS $899 vs iPhone $829. For the extra 70bucks you get quite a lot more.

Clove says Galaxy S2 will be released in May not March. I’m sad. 🙁

I think if I’m paying that sort of money I would want HDMI out as well. No HDMI on the S2 AFAIK, so it’s the Atrix or the Arc for me, I think the multimedia HDMI dock is appealing on the Atrix.

Woops, looks like I am wrong…

There’s no HDMI, but there’s TV-out and DLNA

Buzz, I have a question. Do you reckon Mobicity is getting the Exynos CPU and Super AMOLED+ screen or are they getting the Tegra 2 version? Hope you can give us some news as to which one Australia will be getting whenever you hear about it.

If I’m not wrong (these should be the options):

Exynos with Super AMOLED+
Exynos with LCD
Tegra 2 with Super AMOLED+
Tegra 2 with LCD

Thanks Buzz!

Yeah I do want this phone too~

As a current galaxy S captivate owner ( running a custom rom) I will definitely be skipping Samsung this round. My atrix has been ordered as its replacement (insert mobicity plug)

Will be my next phone too, just spewin my contract isn’t up til July. If Optus get it on a 3 month exclusive, like the first Galaxy S, I’m gonna be ok, just have to wait it out.

Oh man. Come on. 900 bucks for the 16GB model? That’s really expensive. Really really expensive.

Buzz Moody

Well it’s just under that from the UK. So it’s Samsung setting the prices at the moment. I suspect the price will change closer to the launch date. But $850-900 is where it’s at, at the moment.

I hope it’s that price for the 32GB version. Hope the 16GB can be sold between 750-800. $900’s a bit too high. Here’s hoping anyway. Thanks for the news, Buzz.

EDIT: Just checked Handtec and you’re right. ~$830 (delivered) for 16GB version and that’s without VAT. Holy cow.

I’d be interested to see if it’s worth $100 more then the Optimus 2X. Also how quickly that price drops once it’s actually released.

LG Optimus 2X, SGS2, Atrix, Ideos X5.

SGS II and the Atrix! 🙂
