CyanogenMod founder, Steve Kondik, has just announced that CyanogenMod 7.1 is available to download for over 40 different Android devices, which is nothing short of impressive. CyanogenMod is the number 1 community Android distribution with over 713,000 installs. Custom ROMs aren’t my kind of thing, but if you’re that way inclined, you can download CyanogenMod 7.1 from ROM Manager or from their mirrored download network.
Steve says that more devices will be added in the near future, those will include: Pyramid, Doubleshot, Shooter, HP Touchpad, Optimus 3D and a few more unnamed devices.

Anyone got a good guide for installing this onto a stock ZTE V9 tablet?
I have tried a number of times now and I still get stuck at the loading boot screen – left it for 30 mins and it still didn’t load. Am I not waiting long enough, or is there something else at play here? Installed via CWM recovery on my SGS2, wiped cache / data and delvik before installing, and wiped data after installing.
Any tips?
Sorry, that should be wiped cache/data/delvik before flashing, and cache/delvik after flashing. And when I say it gets stuck, the boot animation is running, so it isn’t stalled – and seems to be doing something…
No way should it take 30 mins.
I’m going to ask the easy questions first – are you absolutely sure you grabbed the right file to flash? You did grab the file for SGS II and not the original SGS? Double check you have the GalaxyS2 file.
When in CWM you need to ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ then ‘Wipe cache partition’. No harm doing this before and after flashing the update.zip file.

Yep that is exactly what I have done, four times now… Every time it just loops the boot screen. I am definitely using the SGS2 file, I got it via Rom Manager originally, and since that didn’t work the first time I then downloaded it via the CWM mirror site. I have just seen that a new nightly has been posted – once the nandroid backup has finished restoring (again…) I will ftp that to my phone and try the nightly. – wondering if the ‘update’ thing is the problem? Is it the whole of CWM, or just an update from 7.0 to 7.1. This is the whole rom. It’s possible you had a bad download which is causing the boot loop, maybe download again Also do the files NEED to be in the root directory? No they can be anywhere on the internal/external SD, as long as you can navigate to it in CWM. Some tips: – Make sure you have the latest CWM recovery. I just tried the latest nightly (v80) and it worked. Not sure why the stable one wouldn’t… I have to say that I don’t actually like it though, I guess CM7 is just too vanilla for me coming from Lite’ning rom. Also, this is the first time I have installed a new rom and it has removed all my apps etc – even doing data/cache wipes before when trialing different roms I still had pretty much everything installed etc when I booted up. I tried this on my SGS2 and it works flawless and so fast.
How ever how do you go about ending apps which freeze up?
Go to Settings – Applications – Development – Enable ‘Stop app via long-press’
This enables apps to be killed via long press of the Back key. Just one of the many many hidden tweaks of CM.

It’s really just a matter of trawling through the settings and experimenting. You’ll find most of them in Settings – CyanogenMod Settings. Lockscreen – You can have battery stats, next calendar appointment and music widgets appear. You can also change the style of the lockscreen and have custom applications start from here. Was always interested in this but with no Bluetooth just can’t do it. Not sure how you could release a rom without it, let alone with the support it gets so it must be some rom.
What device are you using? Bluetooth works fine on my defy…

Just installed this on my Motorola Defy. Been running an RC version for a while now and loving it. Really happy that a stable build is now out. Having said that, the RC build was far more stable and reliable than stock Telstra Eclair and Froyo that I was running previously to CM7. It’s definitely suitable for daily use. Give it a go, you won’t be dissapointed. If anyone out there is unhappy with their OEM OS, CM7 is definitely worth a try.
I have been tinkering with CM7 nighties for some time now and they have been pretty stable for a while. BT support was the main lacking feature from my point of view.
I have been using the new stable release most of the day and its flawless. I am waiting to reset battery stats to get a true representation of battery performance but I think it will be great.

I’m currently using Lite’ning romon my SGSII is it worth changing over to CM7? Does anyone know if this build stable enough for general day to day use? I’m a fan of Lite’ning rom, but there hasn’t been any updates as of late and no one has heard anything from it’s developer. :

Well given this is the first time we have been offered a stable version (ie non-nightly build), I would assume it is stable and ready to go. Although It would be worth going to XDA or the cyanogen forums to check this.
Its a hard call as I am also very happy with Lite’ning rom and speedmod kernel, but with a nandroid backup and rom-manager it is only a few clicks to get back to where you started if you don’t like it anyhow. I am sure the is a reason CM is so widely renowned within the android community…
Cool, I have been waiting for a stable vs on the GS2 – will get into it soon to see what the hubub is about. Quite happy with lite’ning rom though TBH…
Awesome, will most likely update my phone tonight. Installing CM7 on my HTC Legend gave it a new lease of life. I was getting frustrated at the lack of space on the device and how slow it used to go.
Ditching Sense and going with a plain Android ROM is one of the best things you can do if you have a low-powered HTC device.
