This morning was supposed to be the announcement by Samsung and Google of the next iteration of the Android operating system and the latest in the line of Nexus phones. Unfortunately Google and Samsung postponed the event out of respect for the passing of Steve Jobs. We just put up a post which seemingly confirmed the name of the new Nexus phone as the Galaxy Nexus but is that the final name? Hit the break to find out more.

At the 2011 T3 Gadget Awards in the UK, Andrew Glass, a Sales Director for Samsung UK, was at the ceremony to accept the award for Phone of the Year for the Samsung Galaxy S II and came up with this quote:

“You will have an announcement of the Nexus Prime very shortly and will be seeing it in shops sooner than you think.” – Andrew Glass

Now, was this a slip of the tongue and he actually meant Galaxy Nexus? I personally don’t think so – I believe there are 2 models coming – the Galaxy Nexus (SCH-i515) which is a Verizon exclusive, and the Nexus Prime (GT-i9250) which is a GSM phone. What do you think?

Knowing Samsung “Soon” probably means at least 3 months…

Knowing any provider, ‘soon’ means whenever they want, I’d say 3-6 months !

I can’t wait til this comes out, however, im not an apple fanboy, i use a Galaxy S2, but with the pricing Telstra just released for the 4S, its going to be incredibly competitive. I mean, $4 a month of the 59 Freedom connect for 16gb. Never has Iphone been cheaper! Compared to S2, im paying $20 a month.

Me wantee.

So keen for these devices!

From the information available, two phones sounds about right.

I hope the Nexus Prime shows up in Aus… and soon!!
