Google announced via their Official Blog that they’d be open sourcing Google Sky Map, a popular Android Application allowing you to view into the universe, and collaborating with Carnegie Mellon University in the US to see further development for student projects. While there was no announcement about what will happen to the Android Application, it seems as though it will stick around and only receive major updates to see it continue to work on newer versions of Android — much like what Adobe are doing with Flash Player.

It was good when it first came out but now there are other options that do a better job.
