Samsung have lifted the lid on the Galaxy Note here in Australia. The 5.3-inch device is available now from Optus and Vodafone for $0 on $79 and $5 on $59 respectively — Telstra will also be launching it (we told you!) in April with pricing unannounced. The Galaxy Note will also be available for purchase outright (and network unlocked) for $899 — $200 more than the $699 price MobiCity are offering.

Out of the box the Galaxy Note will be running Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’. Samsung are hoping to have Ice Cream Sandwich available to users during the second quarter of this year, but don’t get your hopes up on that time frame.

Specs for the Galaxy Note include:

  • 5.3-inch 1280×800 Super AMOLED HD display w/ S-Pen
  • 1.4GHz Dual-Core CPU
  • Android 2.3 (Android 4.0 coming in an update)
  • HSPA+ 21Mbps 850/900/1900/2100MHz
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0

Matt Booth is reporting from the luxurious The Rocks in Sydney.

JB HiFi had a dummy at the Carseldine store (Brisbane) over a week and a half ago. I carried it around the store for a while, it fits perfectly fine in a standard pocket. Feels great in the hand.

Janbrandt

Kogan have it for $549

Gforce2001z

So, no 4g LTE..?

Nathsgames

No it doesn’t have LTE, anywhere in the World

Tazeem Naqvi

Other than AT&T.

Nathsgames

But that’s a different device to the one we have and LTE will not work here as its a different bandwidth, also the CPU is only the Snapdragon CPU and is reported to be vastly inferior.

Gforce2001z

Oh well. just have to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3

Yislam

Glad I got mine from Kogan. $588 delivered. One happy Vegemite!

Janbrandt

I am thinking of doing the same. How long have you had your phone, are there any problems with Kogan or the phone?
Have you subscibed to the samsung app web site.?
Any help would be appreciated.

Blah

i got excited for a sec… stupid telstra.

Gregmcph

The Optus $49 + $11 plan would work for me. $60 for 1.5gig.

I was in Kuala Lumpur a month ago. The phone is big there too.

Thx or the tip,
Now all we need is for a store to let us know were we can handle a live Note and see if it fits the bill.
Optus Vodafone stores in MELB CBD be the first to let everyone in the universe know that you have a live Note to play with…

Jason Murray

Been quite tempted by this 🙂

Colleague just returned from Korea and reported that everyone had either a Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note or iPhone.

Garth Wilson

it’s on the optus website now.

Nathsgames

I checked around up in QLD today and no one had it or knew anything about it. Telstra told me they weren’t sure  if they were still getting it or not. Crazy.

Godslayer
