Vodafone has advised the details of the rollout of the latest update for the Galaxy Nexus which will take owners from 4.0.1 to 4.0.4, after approving the release they advise that Google will begin pushing the update out to phones from 1pm this afternoon. Not all devices will get the update straight away they have advised that the rollout will go over 6 days, the following is the breakdown of how the rollout will be staggered :

  • Day 1-2: Available to 0.1% of devices
  • Day 3: Available to 5% of devices
  • Day 4: Available to 20% of devices
  • Day 5: Available to 60% of devices
  • Day 6: Available to 100% of devices

Vodafone advise that the update is a point release aimed at fixing bugs, addressing stability issues and adding some new features. The look and feel of the OS shouldn’t be changed to a huge extent.

There has been some back and forth between myself and Vodafone on this particular upgrade. Kieran has again done an excellent job of supplying information to us, he advises the update for the Galaxy Nexus was only received from Samsung a month ago and has spent that time in testing with Vodafone.

The sticking point for me I guess is that the image from Google for the identical hardware has been available from Google for at least 2 months(released at the end of March). Carriers do need to test the updates and Vodafone have been making an effort to make that process a little more transparent, however what they need to accept is the reality that the identical hardware has been running the update with No Issues for 2 months by the time it now rolls out.

No word from Optus or Telstra on the 4.0.4 update for their Galaxy Nexus phones at this stage, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear. Let us know in the comments if you`re part of the 0.1%.

Im on optus 4.0.2 and its a joke. Constant reboots and a couplebl times ive been stuck in the boot-loop having to do a hard reset, losing all my settings, files and configuration. Complete joke Optus do something.

omg im waiting for this update but im with optus so anyone hve any idea when optus is gonna roll that update out

I bought the Galaxy Nexus for my wife, daughter and myself in mid-December believing that I would be bypassing the carriers by getting the Google Experience device to get ICS Updates straight from Google and without waiting for the OEM and Carrier (in my case, Optus). How deluded and wrong I was! After 6 months of waiting for an update from 4.0.2, which should have solved the know issues we have suffered with audio and call / signal drop outs, I have given up and bought three new SGS III phones from Optus. From day 1 all the issues we… Read more »

Not to mention what on earth is Telstra doing? They were the first ones with the phone and I’m still on 4.0.1, more than 6 months on!

its nice that optus still hasnt even tried with this. 4.0.3 got released 6 months ago!

And now the pointless and compulsive checking of my phone for the update begins…
