We reported that the Fidelio docks from Philips would be arriving last month, however I’ve only just been able to find them in-stock but at neither Bing Lee or Harvey Norman, I found them at Dick Smith, it appears they’ve also added a third model to their lineup and they have a fairly decent deal on the mid-range model. They’re stocking these three :

AS140 – $104.25 on-sale at 25% off

  • 10W RMS total output power
  • FM digital tuning with presets
  • Bass Reflex Speaker System delivers a powerful, deeper bass
  • Dual alarm to wake you and your partner at different times
  • Auto clock synchronization with Android powered phone
AS351 – $126.75 on-sale at 25% off

  • 10W RMS total output power
  • Precisely tuned bass pipes for deep, tight bass reproduction
  • Compact design for any space, any lifestyle
  • Charge your second mobile device via USB
  • Battery or AC power option for music enjoyment anywhere
  • AUX-in for easy connection to almost any electronic device
AS851 – $171.55

  • Digital Sound Processing for lifelike, distortion-less music
  • Remote control complements speaker design and finishing
  • Optimal acoustic volume to match speakers’ requirements
  • Precisely tuned bass pipes for deep, tight bass reproduction
  • 2x15W RMS total output power

The 3 docks use the FlexiDock system developed by Philips which allows pretty much any Android phone to be connected be it in portrait or landscape mode to allow for charging via microsUSB and streaming of music via Bluetooth :

Once the phone is docked and charging, you then need to load the free Philips Fidelio App from the Google Play store which will then pair your phone to the speaker dock and stream music across the Bluetooth connection. The app also includes access to over 7,000 internet radio stations, a weather forecasting service, various alarms and also the Songbird music player, which lets you sync, browse, playback and manage music playlists from your PC on your Android phone.

We’ve been advised that the AS111 and AS851 are still available from Harvey Norman and Bing Lee, if you haven’t seen them on display at those stores make sure you ask about them because they’re definitely available. I’m actually pretty interested in AS140 and with that price it’s a pretty decent option.

The Philips Fidelio App isn’t required to pair your mobile with the docks. From my experience, the app isn’t very good and it’s easier using any music streaming/Internet radio apps you’re already got.

Does the Bluetooth support ATP-X ? Without it, good quality speakers are a bit of a waste as the compression the music goes through negates the speaker quality.
With ATP-X protocol, it’s basically lossless transmission over bluetooth. My headphones siupport it, and it sounds like you have them connected via a cable.

Genuinely interested in the bottom one, as long as it pumps some bass.

Saw these the other day. The AS851 was $229. If it was $170 I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Guess I’ll have to go back…

pity they sell the iPod version of the AS351 for $69

I’ve had the AS140 for about 6months and am really happy with it. Great to see them officially available in Australia – hope people support them, so more products come in to the country.

Umm… original Galaxy S might be a bit awkward for charging, no?
