We received another tip this morning from our tipster @miracleboi letting us know that the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus has made an appearance in the latest Telstra catalogue, available on pre-paid for just $199.

Why’s this interesting? It’s a good, reasonably priced handset with reasonable specifications. It has been available internationally since January 2012, but now it’s here, from a telco – you can buy it in a bricks and mortar shop easily and it might make a good cheap handset for the kids, students or folks with fewer smartphone demands. Key features include:

  • 5 MP auto-focus camera with LED flash, and video capture
  • Powered by Androidâ„¢ Gingerbread 2.3 (Upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0) with access to the Google Playâ„¢ store
  • Powerful 1 GHz processor to help your videos, games and browsing run fast and smoothly

The fact that it launches with Gingerbread is a little disappointing, but equally, not really surprising given the price point. There’s no word on when an upgrade to ICS will be available, though.

Do you find phones like this appealing? Would you buy one for yourself or the kids?
