Samsung Galaxy Mega
Samsung has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy Mega phones. The Mega is actually two phones, one is a 6.3″ phone with HD display and LTE radios while the smaller Galaxy Mega 5.8″ is has a qHD resolution screen with only HSPA radios. Samsung has obviously found a lot of success with the Galaxy Note series of phones and has decided to continue this trend of phones with large screens although these models will be sans S-Pen, the stylus included with the Galaxy Note series.

JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Business, Samsung Electronics said “We are aware of a great potential in the bigger screen for extensive viewing multimedia, web browsing, and more. We are excited to provide another choice to meet our consumers’ varying lifestyles, all while maintaining the high-quality features of the award-winning GALAXY series.”

Both of the Galaxy Mega handesets will feature software features announced at the launch of the Galaxy S 4, including Group Play, Samsung WatchON, Samsung Link and S Translator. The inclusion of WatchOn means that both handsets will see IR ports included, to ensure that your home entertainment system can be controlled from your phones.

The 5.8″ and 6.3″ Galaxy Mega phones are intended for a Global rollout, beginning in May with Europe and Russia and heading out around the world from there. Samsung has advised that there will be differences in both handsets based on individual markets so we could see minor differences from the specs you see listed above.

Now days bigger is better. I say bring it!

Stop. Making. Phones. Bigger!

That’s what tablets are for!!!!!!

If the next Nexus is any bigger than the current, I won’t be a happy chappy.

Get over it nancy.
Who is forcing you to buy it?
I’m happy that they have gone bigger.
I never use the S pen in my note but always wish for bigger screen.
I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I meant in general. Most of the flagship phones that are coming out are just creeping up in size and getting too big.
Getting a smaller phone these days means you have to compromise in performance.
I’m happy for Note like devices, but just make an awesome phone AS WELL that is about 4.3″ or something!!!

Not gonna happen, bigger phones means bigger batteries so they can have faster processors coupled with no compromise. They also get to advertise the bigger screen as a plus because you can do more things. Its a win-win-win for the manufacturer. They are not going to get smaller unfortunately.

Why are they releasing high end large screen phones with mid range specs? I’d go for this instantly if it had the snapdragon 800. What’s the deal yo?

The resolution seems way too low for such a large device. 560×900 @ 5.8 inches is around 190PPI, that’s less sharper and defined than my old Galaxy S2 @ around 220PPI. I know PPI isn’t everything but I dont want an old grandma phone where icons are huge.

These seem like a good idea but a beefed up version running a quad core, more ram and better screen would be awesome.

I would like AMOLED, and would have preferred 2gb of RAM because I think it will be the Android defacto standard soon. I wonder what CPU/GPU it will have…s4 pro or better and I am in for the 6.3 the minute there is cyanogen support 🙂

Everyone was going on about HTC making too many phones, Samsung is taking the award with this now.

My thoughts exactly. Lots of people complained when HTC released a lot of phones. Samsung releases new ones practically every day and people think it’s the greatest idea ever.
