Cross device sync of game progress, leaderboards and achievements is long overdue on a platform as powerful as Android and now it’s here. The Google Play Games platform was announced very early this morning Australian time during the Google I/O Keynote and there’s already over a dozen games on the play store that have integrated the new funcitonality into their app.

Some of the games that are already doing so are

  • Asphalt 7
  • Osmos HD
  • Super Stickman Golf 2
  • Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour
  • Eufloria HD
  • Mega Run – Redford’s Adventure

As well as Plague, a personal favorite of mine and World of Goo which is on special at the moment for 99c compared with their usual price of $4.99 so it’s well worth the investment to see what Play Games is all about.

Now that the platform is live and the documentation is out there, cross device sync should become standard for Android games which is great news for those of us who have multiple devices and play games across them all.

Does the ability to sync your game progress across devices excite you about mobile gaming? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below

Super Stickman Golf does NOT sync between devices. I can make progress on one device, and it does not reflect to the other…

Love the idea. When will paradise island be supported?

I’m looking forward to this too, so I’m not a different stages of the same game on my N7 compared to my phone. My only concern in my 5 year old son messing up my games. Thinking of a game like Need for Speed Most Wanted. I don’t think you can have more than one user profile at a time. Might be a slight issue. Would be kind of annoying having to sign out of my google account on the nexus 7 before my son uses it…

Wouldn’t the multiple profiles feature on a tablet solve that issue?

Not if I need the same gmail account on both profiles…

I don’t play a lot of games on my phone because my state is on the nexus 7 tablet, (and visa versa) if they synced I’d be a lot happier. What would make me much more excited is if this could be turned on/off for all apps (and not just games).
