June 2013 Distribution
The numbers for June are in and it’s finally looking a little better for Jelly Bean; the combined total of devices running Android 4.1 or above shows that 37.9% of devices have a taste of Project Butter and with Android 4.2.2 rolling out to the HTC One worldwide now, it should cause a slight increase next month in the 4.2 numbers hopefully.

In this months numbers, Google has also finally combined the numbers for Gingerbread iterations into one total and this month all the devices running Android 2.3 number 34.1%.

Android Version May June
1.6 (Donut) 0.1% 0.1%
2.1(Eclair) 1.5% 1.4%
2.2(Froyo) 3.2% 3.1%
2.3-2.3.7(Gingerbread) 2.3-2.3.2: 0.1%

2.3.3-2.3.7: 38.4%
34.1%
3.2(HoneyComb) 0.1% 0.1%
4.0.3-4.0.4(Ice Cream Sandwich) 25.6% 23.3%
4.1(Jelly Bean) 29.0% 32.3%
4.2(Jelly Bean) 4.0% 5.6%

As you can see, the rest of the numbers show a pretty steady decline, although at this point, devices running Donut and Honeycomb are pretty much a statistical anomaly.

It seems like the days of developers actively developing for Gingerbread should soon be over, if these numbers are anything to go by and that’s a good thing. Here’s hoping that James’ Beautiful Android posts begin to get pretty plentiful very soon.
