Despite a statement to Amir Efrati of the Wall Street Journal by Sundar Pichai stating that Samsung would build this years Nexus 10; Russell Holly from Geek.com has stated that multiple sources are reporting to them that Asus rather than Samsung will actually be making the Nexus 10 (2013).

According to Geek, Asus has proven their worth to Google in supplying hardware that is ‘keeping up with the speed of Android by creating hardware that allows Google to keep close to their price points from last year’.

Despite recent issues with Qualcomm over the release of drivers for the GPU included with the Snapdragon SOC in the Nexus 7 (2013), which saw head of the Android Open Source Project Jean-Baptiste Queru resign over the issue. Geek speculates that the Nexus 10 (2013) will use a Snapdragon based SOC based on the use of this chip in the recent Asus built Nexus 7.

Google has been working tirelessly to build a tablet eco-system for larger screened Android devices, pushing design guidelines for Tablet apps as well as introducing Tablet specific parts of the Google Play store.

Despite apparently not selling in as great a number as the Nexus 7, the Nexus 10 has apparently sold in enough numbers to warrant a successor and the rumour mill is now going on who will be supplying the hardware for the refresh.

The Nexus 10 was announced at the end of October last year with the Nexus 4. The Nexus 10 and a new Nexus phone should be announced around the same time to remain in keeping with Googles yearly refresh of their Nexus line of devices, it’s just now a matter of who will make them.

What do you think? Asus or Samsung – Who will build the new Nexus 10?

Like the article says, ASUS have proven their worth with Nexus devices. I’d be happy to see a Nexus 10 from them. If it’s good, might pick up the new phone (if that’s good too :P) as well the 10″ tablet.

My Gnex and older Nexus 7 might get the boot. 😛
Now to save…

Love hearing that rumours about a new Nexus 10. Will hold off getting the new Nexus 7 for now…..

Hmm….after experiencing issues upon issues with my transformer prime. I might, if this rumour is true, wait for the reviews before deciding

Was it the TF201? I bought one and it was nothing but trouble. Lagged out of the box, a lot. Terrible rebooting problems when updating to 4.1.1. It was pretty much a big waste of $500.

I’ve got the tf201 and its never missed a beat. Its always puzzled me hearing the large amount of grief ppl have had with them. I feel it it starting to slow down a bit lately and might be time to refresh. The crazy Res of the current n10 has always been of interest but haven’t seen one in the flesh. But I’d be happy with an Asus built nexus.

If I was you I’d be waiting it out too.

I had the Infinity TF700 and it gradually got worse and worse, hanging, errors, slow. Got rid of it and now have the Xperia Tablet Z, best tablet I have used !

Sean Royce

Xperia Tablet Z does look amazing. Pity I find tablets useless. I’m absolutely loving my Macbook Air 2013 though.

I’d prefer Asus I’m really starting to dislike Samsung..
