Game of Phones
Virgin Australia has announced a new competition coming this summer that will use a location based Augmented Reality type game that will pit players against player in the streets of Australia to compete for virtual prizes in physical locations across Australia.

The competition will be run through the Game of Phones App is available to download now from Google Play(and the App Store). The competition is open to anyone over the age of 18 – there’s an alcohol prize – and has a certain Ingress type quality to it but with physical prizes on offer.

There are 531 Prizes available to be won from a total prize pool worth $231,000, prizes on offer include Virgin Australia Velocity points, Virgin Money EFTPOS gift cards, a Virgin Mobile Irresistible Plan, Virgin Wine mixed cases, Sony Xperia Z1 mobile handsets, Sony 32” TVs and Nespresso coffee machines.

Players will claim ‘prizes’ once they come within 50 metres of a prize icon on the in-game map, but there remains the possibility that anyone else playing the game who comes within 100 metres of you once you claim a prize will be able to ‘steal’ it. Players will be able to retain a maximum of three prizes at any one time and you’ll need to retain your prizes all the way up to the end of the competition to be able to redeem them, with the ultimate winner taking home a $50,000 trip of a lifetime.

Game Of Phones will start on the 18th of November, with the game live between the hours of 7am and 7pm AEDT Monday to Friday and 9am to 6pm AEDT on the weekend. The game will run until the 8th of December.

There are safe zones as well. If you claim a prize you can run into your local Virgin Store and this is a Safe Zone you’ll be safe there for 1 hour..
